Nature is celebrating its first year as a B Corp, a certification that recognises businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Becoming a B Corp is not just a matter of checking a box. It takes the commitment of every single Nature team member to live out the company's mission to use business as a force for good.
To celebrate this milestone, we spoke with several of our team members about their perspectives on being part of a B Corp organisation.
"It's so nice to be part of an organisation that cares about our community and our planet and seeks to do good in the world. You can really feel that ethos in the way the company operates, where we are all encouraged to put forward ideas and causes we are individually passionate about for the business to support, whether that is through pro bono work, volunteering days, or our many fundraising efforts. I think the B Corp philosophy also translates into a supportive, collaborative, and fun work environment, with some truly great colleagues."
"The opportunity to work on pro bono projects has been awesome. It's great to feel like you're using your expertise to really help people. Most recently, I worked with Friends for Good, a loneliness charity, to investigate the stigma surrounding loneliness in Australia. We were even able to share our findings at a symposium they hosted, which was such an inspiring day."
"I absolutely feel like my work at a B Corp is more meaningful than it would be at a non-B Corp company. Not just in the pro bono projects, but in our commercial work as well, we seek to work with like-minded clients who are also doing good in the world. I didn't realise how much work is required for an organisation to become a B Corp, which has given me greater faith that there truly are businesses out there that care about more than just profit, and so align with my personal values. I make a real effort to support other B Corp businesses when I see them, understanding what has gone into achieving that accreditation."
"Being a part of a B Corp organisation means a lot to me. For one, it means that I know my employer is committed to creating a healthy and sustainable workplace for me and my team. It means I know I'm in an environment that is fair and where there are opportunities to succeed regardless of things like gender, age, and background. Most importantly, working at a B Corp means that I have the chance to make a difference to an extent I couldn't achieve alone."
"One of my favourite opportunities so far has been getting to work on a number of pro bono projects to help not-for-profits that I'm personally passionate about to drive meaningful change. I also love the sense of empowerment, community, and dedication that being a B Corp fosters amongst the whole team."
"Going back a few years, I wasn't sure how or if businesses should get involved in certain societal issues. However, through the journey to B Corp certification and since certification last year, I've developed an understanding of how businesses can have a really big impact on society, and I've also seen evidence of a whole load of B Corps doing just that. Working for a B Corp means that I know I work for a business that holds similar values to me, and that we're working together as a team to change the game and have a positive impact. That certainly makes my work more meaningful."
"I've only been at Nature for a few months, but I've already seen how embedded the B Corp principles are in the company. Something unique that I've been able to work on is a self-funded piece of research for a charity. Providing the charity with actionable insights about the donation landscape, their donor audience, and performance of their events was amazing to be a part of, and I look forward to getting more opportunities like this!"
"As much as I want to work hard so that I can get better at my job, make my clients happy, and contribute to the financial performance of the company, I find that having the extra layer of contributing positively to the community and environment really motivating. I heard about what it means to be a B Corp organisation a couple of years ago and knew straight away that I wanted to be a part of one. And once I heard that Nature was a B Corp, it was quickly at the top of my list of agencies I wanted to work for."
"Seeing B Corp principles and ideas in practice shows that businesses don't need to make one big drastic change to act more ethically and responsibly. Instead, it takes an ongoing commitment to changing how things are done for the better. Businesses should take inspiration from one another here, as we are all on the same team when it comes to making environmental and social improvements.
B Corp certification is a rigorous process that requires businesses to assess their impact on all stakeholders, including their employees, community, environment, and customers. This process helps businesses to identify areas where they can improve, and it ensures that they are always striving to do better.
Here are some of the ways that B Corp certification has helped Nature to improve in its first year:
We are proud of the progress we have made, but we know there is more work to be done. We are committed to continuing to use our business to make a positive impact on the world.
We look forward to continuing our journey as a B Corp and making even more progress in the years to come.
We would like to thank our team for their hard work and dedication in making Nature a B Corp. We are proud to work with such a talented and passionate group of people who are committed to making a difference.
